Empanadas

 






For the Dough:
4 cups flour
teaspoons salt
You can even use Garlic Salt or another seasoning if you want your dough to have a certain flavor
3 tablespoons sugar
cup lard (or vegetable shortening; chilled)
2 tablespoons butter (chilled)
2 large egg yolks
1 cup water (divided)

For Brushing:
1 large egg yolk
1 tablespoon water

Mix all dry ingredients together in a large bowl
Add the chilled lard and butter into the dry mixture, use a pastry cutter or Wire Masher to combine ingredients until the mixture appears sandy
Mix egg and water in a separate bowl then pour into the flour mixture little at a time
